THE GRAND TAJ DESI RUM
THEN
NOW
Centuries ago in South Asia, jaggery, initially created and turned into alcohol called Desi Daru (“Desi” pure or unaltered; “Daru” Alcohol), became a tradition and staple in the most of south Asian community which got passed down through generations. From peasants to royalty, it was enjoyed by many. However, a few decades ago, there might’ve been taxation issues and improper distillation methods along with inadequate equipment led to some accidents. Consequently, it was eventually banned, yet many people still distilled it illegally with improper equipment and enjoyed it among their friends and families. Until now, the Grand Taj Desi Rum's co-owners had planned to legally distill the rum with a traditional Indian flavor profile. This is a perfect example of an upscale "desi style" rum, with the aim to reintroduce it into the market to be enjoyed once more legally.
